Exciting Things Have Been Happening...

A lot has been going on around here!  Eric is becoming such a "boy" instead of my baby.  You see, since Eric stays in a developmental stage for longer periods of time than "typical" kids, we get to enjoy the baby stages a lot longer!  I have had a baby for 4 years, in many aspects.  Diapers, being one of them!

I get so excited when I talk about Eric reaching new goals and milestones.  Eric has been changing right before my eyes!  Not only is he tall and he does not have chubby baby cheeks anymore, he amazes us everyday with his comprehension.  He understands everything.  We are so happy for that!

Physically, Eric could not use his hands very well because of stiffness or lack of strength with his fingers.  Until now!  Lately, I have been noticing a huge jump in development with Eric...he is reaching the 2 year level in many ways and we are so excited for these new stages! =)  I have been watching the way Eric has been using his hands.  He seems to be able to use them more efficiently these days.

Through the winter months, I have been trying to keep Eric busy, which is not an easy task if you want to keep your exhaustion levels down! =)  I can't just say "Eric, go play!"  I wish it was that simple.

We have been playing this memory game we have had for quite some time now.  Before, he wasn't really interested in how to play the game, he didn't know how to match.  He could not flip the cards over very easily.  Now, we play this game for 30-40 minutes at a time.  I point out things in the pictures to look for and he finds the matching one.  He has been flipping them back over if they do not match....Never has done that before!  He loves it now!

We have also been coloring a ton through the cold weather....he can actually hold a thick crayon pretty well now and colors for 15-30 minutes at a time.

Also, we have been peeling stickers and placing them on a paper, and then patting them down.  I help him with the sticker by peeling a little so he can grab with his fingers.  The peeling is the hard part for him.

Words cannot explain how excited we get when we see Eric reach new goals.  We know that his willingness to learn will get him through.  =)  As parents, we are just here to push him along and make him feel like there isn't anything he cannot do!  You can do anything you set your mind to, Eric reminds me of that everyday! =)

Til next time,
Shauna
